China Airlines 747-400 50th Anniversary Colors
China Airlines has recently upgraded the interior of their 747-400 aircrafts. We were lucky enough to board one complete with new business class premium seating configurations. This new layout boasts a hip pastel interior design treatment and radiates a vibe that helps to soothe the fourteen-hour journey from New York's JKF to Taipei.
The First Class and Business Class boarding experience is like being escorted through the velvet ropes at one of New York's trendiest night clubs. Once onboard, you'll discover how relaxing and luxurious your flight will be--all of your needs will be met.
Our Flight Path Over the Arctic and Russia
Our flight was a fourteen hour trek over most of Canada and the Arctic. We arched down over the Bearing Sea and flew into Russian airspace for a short while. The flight was an amazing experience. One might think that you'd go crazy trying to figure out how to get through such a long flight but the time went by effortlessly. It was fun getting to know my seat mate over lunch and dinner. I also spent some time with my seat back reclined and the LED light on reading Steve Job's new biography. It was a page turner. Then, with the seat fully reclined, I drifted off for eight hours of restful sleep and awoke as the plane descended over Japan for our landing. This travel experience was effortless.
China Airlines New 747-400 Business Class Interior
My Dynasty Business Class seat was state-of- the art. It adjusted through a wide range of positions and fully reclined into a comfortable cozy flat bed. I'm totally spoiled for future flights now! It sported a 10.5-inch flat screen monitor that served up twenty of the the latest Hollywood releases and your favorite movies on demand. During the flight, my seat mate got caught up on this year's Academy Award nominated films that he'd missed. He was thrilled.
Music lovers have an array of music channels and CDs to choose from too. There are sixteen video games, a universal power adapter for your laptop and a personal LED reading light.
China Airlines Business Class Entree
My flight attendant presented me with a printed dinner menu offering both modern gourmet and Japanese cusine that included a seasonal salad, wok fried orange chicken, grilled New Zealand lamb loin and salmon teriyaki. There was also a wine list featuring selections from France, Italy and California's Napa Valley. The china place setting was arranged on a beige linen tablecloth and there was ample room to maneuver just as though you were dining in your favorite restaurant or comfortably at home.

New Taipei City Cherry Blossom Festival - February 11th to March -17th
During the cool early spring months of February and March, the mountains of New Taipei City blush with the snow-like flowers of tens of thousands of Taiwan cherry, double-flowered cherry, and Yoshino cherry trees. The blossoms add a happy hue to the lush greenery of the forests and suffuse the city with a romantic air. You don't need to travel to Japan to enjoy the cherry blossoms: they are brilliantly represented in their unabashed beauty on the hillsides of New Taipei.
Taiwan Cherry Tree Wins
In April last year, residents of New Taipei City voted to select New Taipei's City Tree. The winner was the Taiwan cherry, a native species numbering more than 150,000 trees on public and private land in the city. This species sheds its leaves in fall and adorns in beautiful pink blooms in early spring. The blossom period lasts from late January to March. There are a number of good spots to enjoy the cherry blossoms in New Taipei around the time of the Lunar New Year holiday: Dahu Road, Beixin Road, and Qingshan Road in Sanzhi District; Wuji Tianyuan Temple, Denggong Road, Shuxing Village Cherry Blossom Avenue, and Sankongquan in Danshui District; the scenic area and along industrial roads in Wulai District; Dajian Mountain in Xizhi District; and Erge Park and Xiaogetou in Shiding District.
This year, the New Taipei City Government is holding the first New Taipei City Cherry Blossom Festival. Related activities will be held from February 11 (Sat) to March 17 in Sanzhi, Danshui, Shiding, Xizhi and Wulai districts, presenting a chance to experience the seasonal hues of the city. This is one post-holiday event you won't want to miss. The New Taipei City Government warmly invites everyone to join in this event to discover the natural beauty and local charms of city.
Cherry Blossom Passports & Prizes
"Cherry Blossom Passports" will be freely distributed at district administration offices in New Taipei during the 2012 New Taipei City Cherry Blossom Festival. Festivalgoers with Cherry Blossom Passports or who say the secret catchphrase, "New Taipei City Cherry Blossom Festival: Great!" can enjoy special offers at participating businesses during the festival, says Agriculture Department Director Liao Jung-ching. Collect three or more commemorative activity stamps and you can also enter a drawing for a chance to win a liang (approx. 1.2 oz) of gold or one of 1,200 prizes.
