The White Elephant :
An unforgettable island landmark since the 1920's.
When this hotel opened its doors in the early 1920’s, the Nantucket islanders took one look at it and immediately pronounced it a “White Elephant.” At the time, it was one of the largest structures on the island and no one expected it to become such a famous landmark.
This luxury property with its 54 guest rooms, suites and 11 garden cottages is one of the best-hidden Nantucket jewels well worth discovering. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a romantic getaway or simply stopping by to enjoy a sundown cocktail at the Brant Point Grill, the White Elephant is sure to please.
Excellent service is the cornerstone of the White Elephant’s success. A guest services representative will greet you at the ferry and will transport your luggage to the hotel. This makes for an especially nice Nantucket stroll to the property, which is located just a few blocks away. Upon arrival, the topnotch service continues. The staff jumps to attention and the check-in process is seamless.
The spacious Harbor View King room included a semi-private deck complete with a café table and chairs. This is a perfect place for people watching and enjoying the “Great Gatsby” party ambiance during the summer months. Ours overlooked the Brant Point Grill’s covered patio with stunning views of Nantucket Harbor. For absolute privacy, we recommend that you book a Harbor View Room or suite located in the east wing. These rooms, complete with private decks, offer a more secluded experience.
Upon entering your Harbor View room, you’ll find complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. You’ll be tempted to immediately pop the cork and start relaxing on your deck. It’s picture postcard beautiful, even in the fog. We especially enjoyed listening to the sound of the ferry arriving into Nantucket Harbor with its deep tenor horn sounding off in the distance. The room was nicely appointed with the following:
32” LG flat screen
Organic fine linens
Crisp cotton bathrobes
Beach chairs & towels
Off-site fitness room (located in White Elephant hotel residence reception area)
Harbor View Suite with fireplace & private deck: $1000 / $405
Harbor View Room with private deck: $960/ $325
Harbor View Room close to bar: $760/ $195
One Bedroom Garden cottage: $835/ $320
Two Bedroom & Three Bedroom cottage $1895/ $870

THE WHITE ELEPHANT SPA
The spa delivers everything one would expect. The Serenity Room is absolutely charming with a beautiful sitting room that overlooks the courtyard and boasts views of the harbor. Sip on a cool glass of mint iced tea before your treatment begins.
The massage rooms can accommodate couples and the heated tables were the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced. We thoroughly enjoyed our one-hour couple’s massage ($300) before heading off to the library for cheese and port.

This is a perfect place to plug in your laptop, login to facebook with your iPad or simply relax with a cup of coffee and read the Sunday paper. This gracious room, with its inviting built-in bookshelves and gas fireplace sets the tone. It’s here you can get to know interesting people from all over the world. One evening, I happened to meet a gentleman from the Isle of Man who inspired me to apply for my dual citizenship and obtain a British passport.
BRANT POINT GRILL
After a day of shopping, head straight to the Brant Point Grill and savor a glass of wine from the Wine Spectator Award winning list while you listen to the Bob Lehman Trio performing live jazz. Satisfy your appetite with delicious fresh seafood served outside under the tented patio in candlelight. Although we were outside, the ambiance was sophisticated yet casual. Wear your shorts and sandals to take advantage of the laid back atmosphere.
For starters, I’d recommend ordering a dozen Katama Bay oysters with champagne mignonette. It’s the Chef’s specialty and is worth trying. For the main course, we ordered the locally caught halibut, which was perfectly portioned and elegantly presented with beautiful summer colored garnishes. Nantucket halibut is some of the freshest available on the market. Don’t miss this dish! To top off a great meal, if you are a chocoholic, you absolutely must try the double fudge chocolate layer cake. ....
