and warm vibe. Dig into the big complimentary breakfast and gaze out at the Chase Creek waterfront before heading out for a bike ride.
The Local Food Scene
After a lengthy train trip, and cycling through the salty air, you’ll want a satisfying meal. The Chequit Inn, situated at the top of a hill overlooking the water, should be your first stop. Sit at an outdoor table and sip a glass of Long Island wine. Down the hill, near the water, sits Reddings Market, a gourmet grocery store, caterer and take-away spot led by a culinary-minded young couple–chefs Matt Danzer and Ann Redding met while working at Per Se, Thomas Keller’s restaurant in Manhattan. Tempting breakfast sandwiches feature housemade maple and sage sausage, applewood bacon and homemade bagels. Nosh on Maple and Chili Northfork Duck Wings for lunch, or grab a deli sandwich, salad or hand-rolled artisanal pizza to go. Once dinnertime rolls around, there’s one place to go: Vine Street Café, understatedly elegant and a favorite of local residents. The menu features timeless classics, like Moules Frites in a spicy saffron herb broth, and light fare, like a salad of local heirloom tomatoes with fresh mozzarella.
