Our third stop on the Barceló Triple Crown trifecta is the Barceló Maya Palace Deluxe on the Riviera Maya, Mexico. It is a great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Let your daily routine fade away into the orange sunsets and over a mile of white sandy beaches. If the beach is not your thing or you need a break from the sun, Spa Xpuha Riviera Maya has enough pampering services for the body, mind and spirit to keep you occupied for the entire week… Got KIDS? No worries, the Barcy Kids Club entertains them all day. Our three day adventure begins…
WELCOME
We were greeted on our arrival by bellmen who took our bags. From here we never lifted another finger. Escorted to the Premium Club where the concierge explained the layout, restaurants, shuttle service, shopping, sports, entertainment, all inclusive program, set up our dinner reservations and ensured to be available around the clock to accommodate our needs. By paying a bit more for the Premium Club you have the opportunity to utilize the 5 hotel resort to the fullest, giving you access to all 5 of the restaurants, 3 bars, 2 gyms, water sports, tennis and more.
OUR ROOM
Before I could even open the terrace doors to the Junior Suite Deluxe Room, the bellman was there with my bags. I unpacked, as usual (a must… it really helps you settle into a place), with plenty of closet space and dressers. With dark paneled closets, dressers and doors the room overall had a modern feel. With ceiling fans, flat screen TV, a/c and lighting managed by a remote controller, two couch sitting area, free WiFi, outdoor patio facing the pool and unlimited all inclusive 24 hour room service, I could easily see myself not returning to the states. The all marble bathroom boasted an oversized tub, separate rain shower, double sinks and all the toiletries you would ever need…not to mention a great hair dryer (key!)

DINING
The mornings began with a healthy dose of breakfast at La Hacienda or El Mirador where buffet stations are set up all around with everything you can imagine. Offering waffles, pancakes with syrups & chocolate sauce, amazing home made breads, omelets, meats, fruits, fresh juices, mimosa, pastries but don’t get too carried away because when you return for lunch the options are endless and always include a kids section with french fries, chicken nuggets, hot dogs and you get the idea. My personal favorite was the ice cream bar! After you fill up your plate, go scope out a scenic table that overlooks the sea.
Dinner served at many different specialty restaurants every night from 6:30pm – 10:30pm require reservations and attire of “Formal Casual”. Options included Mexican, Brazilian, French, Caribbean, Italian & Oriental. The quality and variety was above and beyond what I had expected.
Rodizzio - Brazilian style grilled meats
La Brasserie - From fish and meats to lobster, you must try the escargots and onion soup. Formal and quiet with ocean view at the terrace
Caribe - A variety of seafood and chicken with a salad bar in the middle
Marenostrum - An elegant Mediterranean style restaurant, The Mare Nostrum, features extensive arrays of exquisite fish and seafood specialties
Kyoto - Traditional Japanese with a flare for entertainment, check the special schedules to catch the culinary show
Capri - Italian pizzas and pastas - need we say more
Santa Fé - The finest selection of steaks
Don Quijote - Authentic Spanish dishes
El Agave - Casual Mexican
SPA & SALON
The U Spa Riviera Maya, an area I know quite well having had three treatments while there. 25 massage rooms, a floatation room, a hydrotherapy room, 3 Vichy rooms and one Swiss room but it does not stop there...They have a Temazcal! Something I had never seen before. It looks like a giant clay igloo with a little door that transports you into a traditional Mexican steam bath for 120 minutes of soul searching and soothing. I opted first for a deep tissue 50 minute massage that worked out the thoughts of stress and eased me into my stay. I returned two days later for an 80 minute relaxation massage followed by a 25 minute exfoliation treatment. I left feeling lighter and refreshed. Adjoined to the Spa is Salon de Bellez Beauty Center, a full service salon offering manicures, pedicures, haircuts, styling & blow outs for adults but if you are breeding a little princess well--no fear. Right next door is a dedicate salon for children. Most of the services offered at the adult salon are also available for the little ones including hair braiding.
